No. Our headquarters is in Sacramento, California, but our programs operate nationally. Some of our programs are also available in Canada.

Give an Hour™ is a nonprofit 501(c)(3), founded in September 2005 by Dr. Barbara V. Romberg, a psychologist in the Washington, D.C., area. The organization’s mission is to develop national networks of volunteers capable of responding to both acute and chronic conditions that arise within our society.

Currently, GAH is dedicated to meeting the mental health needs of the troops and families affected by the ongoing conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. We provide counseling to individuals, couples and families, and children and adolescents. We offer treatment for anxiety, depression, substance abuse, post-traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injuries, sexual health and intimacy concerns, and loss and grieving.

GAH has been featured and Dr. Romberg has been interviewed in countless articles, television segments, and radio casts in the last few months, as the mental health needs of the troops have become strikingly apparent.

Corporate Angel Network

Corporate Angel Network is the only charitable organization in the USA whose sole mission is to ease the emotional stress, physical discomfort and financial burden of travel for cancer patients by arranging free flights to treatment centers, using the empty seats on corporate aircraft flying on routine business.

Based in White Plains, NY, Corporate Angel Network occupies an office donated by the Westchester County Airport. 50 part-time volunteers and five paid staff work with patients, physicians, corporations, flight departments and leading treatment facilities to arrange 2,500 flights a year.

Eligibility to participate in our program is open to all cancer patients, bone marrow donors, and bone marrow recipients who are ambulatory and not in need of medical support while traveling. Eligibility is not based on financial need, and patients may travel as often as necessary.

Thanks to the generous cooperation of 500 of America’s top corporations, including 56 of the top 100 in the Fortune 500, Corporate Angel Network has coordinated more than 25,000 flights since it’s founding in 1981. The program offers an obvious and meaningful benefit to cancer patients along with the opportunity for companies with corporate aircraft to provide a wonderful community service by merging business.

Healing Home

Since 1997, The House of Charity has housed the children we sponsor for medical care at local hospitals and clinics in apartments, hotel rooms and volunteers’ homes. In April of 2002 the board of directors of The House of Charity decided to move forward with its plan of purchasing a home that would be a permanent location to house these children providing:

We searched Houston for the perfect location and found a duplex in West Houston in the Walnut Bend subdivision. This home is more than just a place to stay for these children. We are providing a safe and comfortable environment for these children to not only heal physically but also heal the mental wounds they have received from a life of special challenges, neglect and ridicule. We are helping them grow confidence and self reliance by teaching them the necessary skills to survive this world. Just over three weeks after we closed on the property we were able to move the children from the apartment to The House of Charity Healing Home.

Healing Home

This home is more than just a place to stay for these children. It is a safe and comfortable environment for these children to not only heal physically, but to also heal the mental and emotional wounds they have received over years of difficult struggle, facing challenges, neglect, ridicule, and turmoil.

The most beautiful part about the Healing Home is that it brings children from different areas and backgrounds together to come and live under one roof, just like a family. We would love for all of you to come and visit the home, so whenever you have time, please call and arrange to come and spend some time with the children and take a glimpse of the magic that takes place in the Healing Home every single day.

The home can accommodate 25 children at a time, who are constantly under the care and supervision of a registered nurse and dedicated volunteers. All local children travel with one parent and 90% of the international children travel with an escort and stay in our healing home. Their stays can range from 6 months to 9 months to full one year, and most children require multiple surgeries

Wheels Appeal

Wheels Appeal

In Monmouth County, public transportation does not meet the needs of the poor, who solely rely on it to get to and from work. Through the Needs Assessment Survey, the United Way of Monmouth County has identified that the third most crucial need in our county is transportation. The Wheels Appeal program is designed to help with these transportation needs. The program has two components:

* Donated vehicles are received, assessed, and repaired if necessary and appropriate. In 2007, Wheels Appeal gave vehicles worth $33,390 to qualified applicants.
* Vehicles are re-donated to qualified applicants in Monmouth County.

A law passed in 2004 changed the tax-deduction policy. However, the IRS still allows a fair market value write-off for a vehicle that is donated and re-donated to a needy person. If a vehicle is not appropriate for re-donation, the vehicle may be sold. Love INC has the ability to receive cars to be sold from most parts of the continental United States. The proceeds are used to repair other vehicles or to support the various programs of Love INC.

Medical Transportation Reimbursement Fund

The MOTOR Fund has been created to assist individuals who need to travel a significant distance to receive medical care. The fund has been established to lessen the financial burden on individuals and families that can result from obtaining medical care that is sometimes far away from home.

Please review these eligibility requirements to see if you qualify for reimbursement of travel expenses from the MOTOR Fund. If you feel that you qualify, please fill out and send in the Recipient Form. If you are uncertain whether or not you qualify, please send in the information. Applications will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

MILEAGE

The first requirement of eligibility for support from the MOTOR Fund is mileage traveled to and from the medical facility where your care is obtained. Currently, this distance is set at 250 miles or greater, or 500 miles round trip or greater.

DISTANCE = 250 MILES or greater (500 MILES ROUND-TRIP or greater)

This distance traveled will be verified by MapQuest or a similar program and is from your home (or similar location) to the designated care facility. The distance of side trips to visit a relative, Disneyland, sight-seeing, etc will not be covered by the MOTOR Fund and may not be included in this distance. You can verify this distance by selecting the link to MapQuest and entering the required information. (Submission of a printout of this confirmation of mileage with your Recipient Form is highly recommended.)

Mileage traveled by vehicle will be covered at $0.14 cents (USD) per mile, or actual expenses incurred (cost of fuel), whichever is requested by the recipient. (If cost of fuel is requested, receipts of these expenses must accompany the Recipient Form.)

If travel is obtained by airfare, train, bus, or other means, please submit this receipt and all additional expenses (travel to the airport, taxi, shuttle, rental car, parking fees, etc).

Operation Military Kids

Operation: Military Kids (OMK) is the U.S. Army's collaborative effort with America's communities to support the children and youth impacted by deployment. This initiative was officially launched in April 2005. Since its inception OMK has touched 88,000 military youth and provided information to 21009 community members across the United States.

Operation: Military Kids, as part of the 4-H/Army Youth Development Project, is a vital part of the Army OneSource (AOS) delivery system. Families and youth can access information about OMK programs, link to OMK partner programs on this OMK website or by contacting their State 4-H Military Liaison.

Through a network of community partners, OMK provides youth program opportunities for school age, middle school and teenaged youth and connects them to support resources where they live. Through OMK, Military Youth can:

National 4-H Headquarters provides information to connect military to 4-H programs in their hometowns. Schools can help create academic, social and emotional support networks for students. Like a camera, the eye has a lens to focus sharp images. Vision is good when the lens is clear and focuses light on a healthy retina at the back of the eye.

Cataracts are a clouding of this natural lens, and they are a part of the normal aging process. If we live long enough, we will all get them. Some cataracts are caused by birth defects, injuries, medications, infections, radiation, toxic substances or severe electric shock.

Cataracts are the most common cause of blurred vision for people over the age of 50. Although there is no medicine or diet to cure cataracts, surgical removal of the cataract and replacement with a permanent artificial lens implant can restore lost vision.

Refugee Resettlement Program

RRP is a federally funded program that provides cash and medical assistance to refugees. An individual is considered a refugee for purposes of RRP if he or she fled from and cannot return to his or her place of national origin because of fear of persecution on account of race, religion or political opinion.

Only single individuals or couples without children are eligible for the RRP program, which is administered by the county welfare agencies for up to eight months, based on the refugee's date of entry into this country. Small-Dollar Loan Pilot Program

In February 2008, the FDIC began a two-year pilot project to review affordable and responsible small-dollar loan programs in financial institutions.

The pilot is a case study intended to identify effective and replicable business practices to help banks incorporate affordable small-dollar loans into their other mainstream banking services. Best practices resulting from the pilot will be identified and become a resource for other institutions. Thirty-two (32) volunteer banks are participating. These banks have total assets ranging from $26 million to $10 billion and they are in diverse geographic locations.

Program Requirements
A key goal of the pilot is to observe and encourage participating institutions to experiment with providing safe, sound, affordable, and profitable small-dollar loans. Therefore, the FDIC has provided general guidelines for banks that seek to participate. It is anticipated that current or planned products offered by the participating banks are generally consistent with the FDIC's guidelines on small-dollar lending (see FDIC Press Release: PR-52-2007: FDIC Issues Final Guidelines on Affordable Small-Dollar Loans)

Key features described in the Guidelines on Affordable Small-Dollar Loans include:

* Loan amounts of up to $1,000;
* Amortization periods longer than a single pay cycle and up to 36 months for closed-end credit, or minimum payments that reduce principal (i.e., do not result in negative amortization) for open-end credit;
* Annual percentage rates (APR) below 36 percent;
* No prepayment penalties;
* Origination and/or maintenance fees limited to the amount necessary to cover actual costs; and
* An automatic savings component.

Many clients of lawyers have a positive experience, but many more seem to have one or more problems. It could be a problem with fees, with the results, with the burdens of discovery, with the delays, or with the irrationality of the system. Often they blame the lawyer for the problem, but don't know what to do about it. Maybe it's not the lawyer's fault at all -- they just don't know. They also feel that the entire legal system is designed to protect its own -- they don't know who to turn to or what to do. Clients, even large corporations, also feel that if they ask their lawyer questions or doubt their lawyer, the lawyer will retaliate against them.

No matter how sympathetic or irrational the situation may be, there are also times when the lawyer or legal system is not wrong or to be blamed. Sometimes you just need to move along.

While every issue is not alike, here are some common ways to address the problems with lawyers we see most often:

If you think you have been a victim of legal malpractice, the normal remedy is a new lawsuit for malpractice. It is generally not malpractice simply for a lawyer to lose -- the question is usually whether the lawyer was negligent in representing you and it caused you harm. Your first step is to try to locate a lawyer who handles such cases in your area.

The American Legion

In the 1920s, The American Legion began a national program of Temporary Financial Assistance to keep the children of deceased or disabled veterans at home rather than in institutions. This cash aid is still available for cases not covered by subsequent state and federal programs for the needy. In 2007 of eligible veterans, the TFA program provided more than $562,100 to 521 families, benefiting almost 1198 children.

Through TFA, a local post can call upon the national organization for cash assistance to help maintain the basic needs of veterans' children. The TFA fund has been used to assist families in meeting the costs of shelter, food, utilities and health expense items when the parents are unable to do so, thereby keeping the child, or children, in a more stable home environment.
TFA Case Studies

Not being able to work due to an operation on his shoulder, a 20 percent disabled veteran and his two minor children were in financial difficulty. The mother of the children had abandoned the family, providing no support. While the family was receiving Food Stamps and assistance with their rent, they had fallen behind on the electric bill, and there was a good chance it would be cut-off. While a Service Officer was working to upgrade the veteran's disability claim, the Temporary Financial Assistance program stepped in and paid the electric bill, assuring the children would have a safe and warm home in which to live.

A Persian Gulf War veteran, with two minor children and a 17-year member of the Air Force National Guard, was discharged due to a disability he received while on active duty. When he was granted 50 percent disability VA benefits, he was informed he would have to repay thousands of dollars received as severance pay upon his discharge, reducing his monthly benefit to a paltry $182 a month. This amount, however, coupled with the minimum wages received by his wife, put the family $6 over the income limit to receive food stamps. In addition, the family had fallen behind in their rent. The Temporary Financial Assistance program provided rent money sufficient to ward off eviction as a service officer worked to increase the disability claim with the VA and assisted the veteran in filing for Social Security benefits.

Sometimes the Temporary Financial Assistance program simply provides dollars to help the parents with the general health and welfare of the children. Such was the case when a Coast Guard veteran was discharged with a very serious skin disease developed from exposure to chemicals used in his military trained maintenance position as an airplane mechanic. He was hired by civilian companies, because of his military training, but was again exposed to chemicals similar to those that caused the original problem. As a result, it was finally determined he would have to be retrained through the VA Vocational Rehabilitation program. The veteran's wife was a substitute teacher, and the income from this work was sporadic, at best, and the family was falling behind financially. Assistance was provided to give this family a hand up until the veteran was enrolled in the Vocational Rehabilitation program.

Just for Grins: The CVHN Mobile Dental Clinic

In 2008 CVHN will launch its first mobile dental clinic program. This program provides preventive dental care and education to local school-aged children on the free or reduced lunch programs. Dental decay is the single most common chronic childhood disease. Every week, CVHN receives calls to help children with severe dental problems. Children as young as 5 need root canals and multiple teeth extracted. Left untreated, dental decay has short and long term negative effects including poor overall health and untreated decay is linked to diseases such as diabetes, heart and lung disease and strokes. Sadly, dental decay is almost entirely preventable. The Just for Grins mobile dental clinic will provide the dental treatment and education needed to transition kids from costly and painful emergency dental care to cost-effective preventive care, allowing these kids to remain healthy and be productive students. The first Just for Grins program will initially visit Walton County elementary schools and serve children K-3 on the free or reduced lunch programs. Sponsorship opportunities are available through CVHN.

Healthcare Referral Form & Process

The school teachers identify children who need medical attention and send them to the school nurse. The school nurse has a parent or guardian fill out the simple CVHN referral form and she faxes it to CVHN. The CVHN Case Manager matches the child with the appropriate healthcare provider and schedules an appointment. The child is then picked up by a volunteer at the school if the parent is unable to transport the child to the doctor’s office. Any follow-up care is scheduled by the CVHN Case Manager.

Burial Assistance

The Burial Assistance program provides financial assistance to help pay for funeral, burial, and/or cremation costs.
Eligibility Requirements

* The deceased must have been a recipient of Aid to the Needy Disabled, Aid to the Blind, Colorado Supplement, Old Age Pension, or Medicaid while they were alive; and
* The estate of the deceased individual must be insufficient to pay reasonable expenses; and
* Persons legally responsible for the support of the deceased individual are unable to pay because of insufficient resources.

The total cost for the funeral/burial/cremation cannot exceed $2,500. The maximum contribution from the Burial Assistance program will be reduced by the decedent's estate. The County Department of Social (Human) Services will determine whether any funds are available from the decedent's estate or from legally responsible persons that will reduce the Burial Assistance program benefit.

Resources that may be counted include, but are not limited to, the following:

* Any cash, checking or savings account balances.
* The equity value of the home or other real property.
* The equity value of any vehicles or other personal property owned by the decedent.
* Funds from any insurance policy owned by the decedent is counted regardless of who is named a beneficiary.
* Other assets such as stocks, bonds, 401k's, annuities, and mutual funds.
* The value of any prepaid burial plan.

What is the Maximum Reimbursement Amount?

The maximum reimbursement depends upon the program from which the decedent received benefits.

* For individuals age 60 and over who were receiving Old Age Pension or Medicaid at the time of death or for individuals of any age who were receiving Medicaid benefits for families and children at the time of death, the Burial Assistance program contribution is limited to a maximum of $1,500.
* For individuals who were receiving benefits from Aid to the Needy Disabled (AND), Aid to the Blind (AB), Colorado Supplement to AND or AB, or Supplemental Security Income/Medicaid-Only at the time of death, the Burial Assistance program contribution is limited to a maximum of $1,000.

Interview Preparation & Counseling
When a participant arrives for his scheduled appointment, trained volunteers review his resume, identify potential barriers to the upcoming interview, review the work environment/culture in which the interview will take place and offer specific and concrete tools to overcome potential obstacles in securing gainful employment.

Interview Clothing
Our team of assistant managers works one-on-one with the men to help select an appropriate outfit for the upcoming job interview. Professional clothing provided includes a suit, dress shirt, tie, belt, shoes, and overcoat (when available). Ninety percent of the clothing we provide is donated by manufacturers and designers and is brand new. Ten percent is gently used clothing that has been donated by individuals and is in excellent condition. Career Gear provides new shoes for each participant. Clothing that is not in excellent condition is re-donated to other social service agencies in the community.

In 2008, 1,445 men received a business suit and career counseling at its national headquarters in New York. Career Gear affiliates suited another 1,828.

Ministry Description: Cars are received as donations from individuals to Grace United Methodist church. How We Help

Every dollar donated is used to help pets. Every dollar. Every cent. We have no overhead or salary costs. None. We are an entirely volunteer organization. All payments are made directly to the veterinarian or medical supplier. Most animal-welfare charities do not offer medical treatment. Those that do are often only able to provide services at one location. Through the use of local vets and hospitals, we enable accessible and immediate care from vets who are familiar with the pets. While most of our assistance goes to perform surgeries, we also assist with preventive and curative treatments.

Family-to-Family (F-to-F) is a tax-exempt 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to connecting families with more to families with less. The program creates a bridge between suburban communities with enough to share and some of our country's most impoverished areas.

Our members welcome the concrete responsibility of shopping for, packing, and sending a carton of fundamental necessities to a family they "sponsor." Husbands, wives and children in blessed corners of the world are eager to link themselves, over time, to moms, dads and kids living in abject poverty. They share the sentiment of anthropologist Margaret Mead, who once said: "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world."

Just as a strong fence makes for good neighbors, the physical distance between donors and recipients creates a heightened sense of intimacy. F-to-F participants are simply good neighbors…living many miles apart.
Linked families are encouraged to write letters to each other, deepening the connection between them.

F-to-F started as a result of Pembroke’s sad story (see Our History). To date we have over 700 families linked to each other across the country. Our families support 13 needy communities located in 10 states with monthly shipments of food and friendship.

Friends of Disabled Adults & Children

FODAC provides over $8 million each year in equipment and services to the community at little or no cost to the recipients. FODAC is a 501(c)(3) and does not have direct funding from Medicare/Medicaid for the services offered. Most equipment is issued for a suggested donation but some services have mandatory fees.
Our Philosophy and Strengths:

We provide home health (mobility and daily living) equipment to people of any age or any disability, temporary or permanent, for medically necessary and medically helpful reasons. These items are provided for a suggested donation. Clients do not have to qualify financially but our waiting lists place a priority on Medically Necessary and low income individuals.

Medically Necessary:
We strive to meet the short term needs for medically necessary situations while waiting on benefits to take over. Examples include injuries with no existing insurance, a child outgrowing a wheelchair, a back up piece of equipment, all shower equipment, or caregiver aids.

Medically Helpful:
We strive to further assist individuals who have specific community interests that require mobility for traveling long distances. Examples include recreation, school, church, shopping, and doctor’s appointments.
Client info and Responsibilities:

We accept phone or walk in requests for equipment. Medically necessary requests receive top priority followed by medically helpful requests.
We can only provide equipment as it is donated to us. Some requests may go on a waiting list that could take several days or several weeks to fill depending on availability.

FODAC does not perform repairs on a walk-in basis. Many people who arrive to get a repair without calling first are asked to make an appointment and come back on another date. Those who schedule repairs should bring their confirmation number with them.

FODAC requires a mandatory contribution fee of $25.00 for each repair plus the cost for any parts that must be purchased. This is to be paid IN ADVANCE of the repair. (The average home health care company charges $60 per hour for labor).

Walgreens Offers Free Care

If you've lost your job this year, then Walgreens is doing something to make the hard times, a tad more bearable. They are offering free health care for those who are unemployed and uninsured until the end of 2009. You'll receive free treatments at their in-store take care centers located 35 market cities around the country. Walgreens runs 341 of these in-store clinics.

While it doesn't provide services that are considered routine such as vaccinations, check-ups and injections, they do focus on urgent care needs and treatments. Spouses and children are also available for free care but you must present proof of unemployment. Free services will only be offered from 11am to 3pm Monday through Friday.

The Wishing Well Foundation USA Inc. is a non-profit organization headquartered in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Foundation’s single goal is to bring joy to children with life threatening illnesses by providing them with their fondest wish in life.

Confronted with the tragedy of a family friend with a terminally ill child, the founders, Elwin and Lisbeth LeBeau, comforted their friend as best they could as their friend's child's life slowly ebbed away. That experience left an impression in the LeBeau's lives which caused them to wonder about other critically ill children and their families...families financially unable to provide their ill child with anything other than the basic needs.

Responding to that thought the LeBeau’s learned about some of the charitable organizations reaching out to these children and their families. But as Lisbeth so aptly states, "Can there be too many groups granting last wishes to children with life threatening illnesses". Care Partners

What is CarePartners?

CarePartners is a program provided by The Medical Center of Central Georgia to people in the community who demonstrate a need for assistance in finding a medical home for healthcare. It is a health partnership designed for adults, 18 and over who do not have access to insurance or Medicaid but have low income. It is similar in benefits to a managed care program yet does not have any monthly premiums.

Who qualifies for CarePartners membership?

Those who meet age, financial, residency, health criteria and present a valid U.S. Social Security Card.

How much will it cost?

Co-pays are required for services but are based upon a sliding scale. The sliding scale is based upon Federal Poverty Guidelines.

What services can I receive?

You will be able to get medical services that are medically necessary and are normally provided at The Medical Center of Central Georgia. These include office visits with a nurse practitioner or doctor, immunizations such as flu and pneumonia shots, radiology and lab services, hospital stays and health education. You may also receive assistance with prescription medications if you have no other prescription plan.

How is CarePartners different from the “clinic card”?

Clinic cards will no longer be issued or used. Members will be issued a membership card required at each point of service. It will have a barcode which will be scanned at the time of service to identify you and your plan. When elective surgeries or procedures are ordered, a pre-certification for medical necessity will be conducted to ensure that members receive the quality and type of services that are needed.

How is CarePartners different from insurance coverage?

CarePartners membership is different from insurance in that it only applies to services provided by The Medical Center of Central Georgia and no premiums are paid by the member. Co-pays for services are determined using the federal poverty guidelines. In addition, a partnership is expected between the Medical Center of Central Georgia and the member. Member responsibilities are described in a Code of Conduct.

What can I do if I am homeless?

If you do not have a permanent place to live, you will have different rights and benefits depending on your situation. You may be able to get help with:
emergency housing,
permanent housing,
food,
a job, and if you have children, getting them enrolled in school.
Help for People Who Get Cash Assistance from the CT Department of Social Services

You may be eligible to have the state pay for emergency housing and other benefits for you and your family. This help is available if you become homeless and the Connecticut Department of Social Services (DSS): provides you monthly cash benefits for families with children (TFA/Temporary Family Assistance), or provided your family with Diversion Assistance within the last three months; or provides you monthly cash benefits in the State Supplement program also called Aid to the Aged, Blind & Disabled (AABD); or provides you monthly cash benefits in the State Administered General Assistance (SAGA) program.

If you are eligible, DSS will pay for emergency housing once in a calendar year, for up to 60 days. You must apply for emergency housing within 45 days of when you became homeless.

American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry

This program was developed to address a need in the communities of the members of the AACD. Volunteer members of the AACD agree to restore the broken and damaged teeth of survivors of domestic violence. Survivors know that bruises and scars will fade but broken and missing teeth will not. Our generous dentists erase that memory by restoring the smiles at no cost to the survivor thereby restoring their lives.

Whitening Program
This program was developed as an additional way the dentists can support the AACDCF. Ultradent and Discus Dental have agreed to donate whitening kits to volunteer dentists. The dental office then offers the whitening kits to their patient base for a donation of $225 to the AACDCF. These funds go directly to supporting the programs of the AACDCF. This brilliant program allows dentists, patients, and the sponsoring companies an opportunity to restore lives.

Disaster Relief Fund
The catastrophic effects of the storms of 2005 in the Gulf region inspired the leaders of the AACD and AACDCF to develop a at ready disaster relief program to support our members. In the first year of the program we were able to raise and distribute over $80,000 to members whose practices were directly affected by Katrina and Rita. In 2006 the fund assisted a member on the east coast that was recovering from the major flooding during the summer in that region. The Disaster Relief Fund stands ready to help our members in the case of future disasters.

The WIC target population are low-income, nutritionally at risk:

Ways to Work is a proven, innovative program that provides small loans to low-income parents who cannot get loans elsewhere. The purpose of the loan is to help family members pay for unexpected expenses that could interfere with their ability to keep a job or stay in school.
