Medical Transportation Reimbursement Fund

The MOTOR Fund has been created to assist individuals who need to travel a significant distance to receive medical care. The fund has been established to lessen the financial burden on individuals and families that can result from obtaining medical care that is sometimes far away from home.

Please review these eligibility requirements to see if you qualify for reimbursement of travel expenses from the MOTOR Fund. If you feel that you qualify, please fill out and send in the Recipient Form. If you are uncertain whether or not you qualify, please send in the information. Applications will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

MILEAGE

The first requirement of eligibility for support from the MOTOR Fund is mileage traveled to and from the medical facility where your care is obtained. Currently, this distance is set at 250 miles or greater, or 500 miles round trip or greater.

DISTANCE = 250 MILES or greater (500 MILES ROUND-TRIP or greater)

This distance traveled will be verified by MapQuest or a similar program and is from your home (or similar location) to the designated care facility. The distance of side trips to visit a relative, Disneyland, sight-seeing, etc will not be covered by the MOTOR Fund and may not be included in this distance. You can verify this distance by selecting the link to MapQuest and entering the required information. (Submission of a printout of this confirmation of mileage with your Recipient Form is highly recommended.)

Mileage traveled by vehicle will be covered at $0.14 cents (USD) per mile, or actual expenses incurred (cost of fuel), whichever is requested by the recipient. (If cost of fuel is requested, receipts of these expenses must accompany the Recipient Form.)

If travel is obtained by airfare, train, bus, or other means, please submit this receipt and all additional expenses (travel to the airport, taxi, shuttle, rental car, parking fees, etc).

Angel Flight

Angel Flight was created by a group of pilots who believe in the benefit of volunteering. We strive to keep all aspects of the organization volunteer. We are a non-profit charitable organization of pilots, volunteers, and friends. We will arrange free air transportation for any legitimate, charitable, medically related need. This service is available to individuals, and health care organizations. We will also arrange transportation of those people who are financially distressed, or who are in a time-critical, non-emergency situation due to their medical condition.

Angel Flight primarily serves patients needing transportation to or from the heartland region. As members of the Air Care Alliance, a group of organizations providing similar services throughout the United States. By coordinating with other organizations, Angel Flight can arrange transportation for patients on longer flights to other parts of the country outside of the Heartland region. Angel Flight has also flown blood products for the Oklahoma Blood Institute and Red Cross in emergency situations. Our Patients are usually traveling for surgery, chemotherapy, dialysis, and other treatments. A typical flight may carry patients requiring treatment at M.D. Anderson in Houston or the Shriner Hospital in Galveston, TX.

Angel Flight is financially supported primarily by our pilots who fly the missions (by donating the use of their airplanes and operating expenses) and by contributions from individuals, service clubs, social and religious groups and corporations. We receive no financial aid from any government entity. There is never a fee of any kind, either to the patient or the health care provider for an Angel Flight. The costs are paid by the volunteer pilots.

Traveler's Aid

Travelers Aid International is the association for Travelers Aid agencies and programs in the United States (including Puerto Rico), Canada, and Australia. Travelers Aid served more than 6.5 million people last year in forty-eight communities, and at thirty-six transportation centers (airports, bus and train stations). Travelers Aid also provided casework services to 200,000 (including homeless persons, and individuals and families in crisis). Each member of the Network is independently managed and provides programs and services that meet the needs of its community.
